Product Questions
What is Purified Omega-7?
Palmitic Acid-Free Omega-7 (Palmitoleic Acid) Provinal® Purified Omega 7 fatty acids set the standard for purity — undergoing a unique process to remove saturated fatty acids and express high levels of palmitoleic acid (C16:1n7), which has been shown to help maintain normal C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. Other Omega 7 formulations on the market may contain upwards of 30% of palmitic acid, a saturated fatty acid that has been shown to have negative health effects.
What's the recommended dosage? 210mg OR 420mg?
Dr. Michael Roizen recommends 420mg per day. But 210mg has been used in a recent double-blind placebo controlled study, a daily intake of 210 mg of Omega 7 was better than placebo at managing cholesterol, triglycerides, and a healthy response to inflammation. *
How many softgels are in Cardia 7 and how many milligrams are in each capsule?
Safe and effective, bottles contain 30, 60, & 90 softgels each - a one, two or three month supply. Daily dosage is 420 mg/day (210 mg palmitoleic acid), in one small softgel.
What is an Omega-7 Fatty Acid, and I've only heard about the Omega 3's?
Omega-7 is a fatty acid with a slightly different chemical structure than the Omega-3′s. Omega-7 palmitoleic acid acts uniquely from a biochemical perspective and is not matched by any other essential fatty acid. Described as a lipokine (A lipokine is a lipid-controlling hormone), Omega-7 has the capability to modulate inflammation. Omega-7 is also a naturally-occurring fatty acid which exists in a variety of substances that exist in the food chain.
What is different about Omega-7 compared to other fatty acids?
Interestingly, based upon extensive scientific research from many well-respected groups around the world, Omega-7 actually has more extensive pharmacologic actions than the Omega-3′s. Virtually all of this research is published in leading scientific journals. Actions that have been reported to be attributed to Omega-7 include: improvements in lipid profiles, anti-inflammatory actions, improved insulin sensitivity & glucose metabolism, and even prevention of cholesterol and beta-amyloid deposition in both animal models and humans.
Are there any other Omega 7 containing products on the market?
Yes, and most of the existing Omega-7 products on the market come from sea buckthorn, which is a plant source. The concentrations of those preparations are stated to be approximately 26% of Omega-7, with a very high concentration of palmitic acid, which is a “bad fatty acid” that has been shown to destroy beta cells in the pancreas which are the cells that produce insulin.
Palmitic acid content should be as low as possible for this reason. In nature Omega-7 (Palmitoleic acid) is always found with its evil twin Palmitic acid; one is a monunsaturated fat that has beneficial health effects, the other is a saturated fatty acid with negative health effects. The breakthrough with Purified Omega-7 in with a unique 7-step purification process that maximizes the good and minimizes the bad. Cardia 7 has a 50%+ concentration of Omega-7 and virtually no palmitic acid.
What aspects of one's lipid profile are shown to be affected by Omega-7?
As previously stated, Omega-7 has been documented to have a broader range of activity than the Omega-3′s. In the area of blood lipids, Omega 7 has been shown in animals and humans to have the following positive actions: raises HDL (“good cholesterol”) without any flushing side effects, lowers LDL (“bad cholesterol”) and also lowers triglycerides. The Omega-3′s are effective at lowering bad cholesterol, but have minimal effect on HDL. Thus, with Omega-7, one gets a broader action with a single fatty acid. All fatty acids are definitely not the same.
Can Omega-7 be taken in conjunction with statins?
Yes. There are no known side effects or contraindications but you should always consult with your Doctor about any supplements you’re taking.
Allergy Questions
What are the gel caps made of?
Cardia 7 capsules are encapsulated in premium bovine gelatin.
Is Cardia 7 processed with gluten, dairy, or tapioca in the same factory?
The facility producing Cardia 7 capsules chiefly works with oils but some powders are also present in the facility. The facility cannot guarantee that Tapioca or other gluten containing ingredients have never entered the facility but are not handled on a regular basis.
Is Cardia 7 processed with gluten, dairy, parsley, or tapioca on the same line?
Cardia 7 capsules are produced in a state of the art softgel encapsulation facility. Other oils including wheat germ and parsley are potentially processed on the same encapsulation equipment; however, with the GMP cleaning procedures in place, potential allergen threats should be minimized.

What are potential triggers for chronic inflammation in pets?
An important potential trigger for chronic inflammation is excess weight. In the past, fat was thought to be an inert tissue that didn't have any specific biological significance other than to provide insulation and quick energy. New research suggests that fat plays a larger role than once believed. In fact, fat is now considered to be an active part of the endocrine system and has direct influence over the release and regulation of hormones. Chronic inflammation is a sign your pet's immune system is out of control. In chronic inflammation there is a faulty distress signal causing the body to continue to release cytokines and the immune system to send out white blood cells unnecessarily. In the absence of any actual pathogens, the white blood cells will start to attack healthy tissue, which then prompts the release of more cytokines. And the cycle continues, wreaking havoc on healthy cells and causing widespread damage to tissue. (source* Jennifer Febel of Avivagen Animal Health Inc. )

What is an Omega Fatty Acid, I've only heard about Omega-3's?
Omega-7 is a fatty acid with a slightly different chemical structure than the Omega-3's. The number behind the Omega word relates to where the double bond exists within the structure of the compound. Omega-7 is also a naturally-occurring fatty acid which exists in a variety of substances that exist in the food chain.
